Ölüdeniz's Blue Lagoon and the world's best paragliding await — but first you need to get from Dalaman Airport. Here's the complete guide to the 65 km, 60-minute transfer.
You're travelling to Ölüdeniz — one of the most photographed beaches on earth, home to the UNESCO-protected Blue Lagoon and the legendary paragliding from the 1,975-metre summit of Baba Dağ. The journey from Dalaman Airport (DLM) is 65 km and approximately 60 minutes by private transfer. It's a smooth, well-signposted route with a scenic mountain stretch near the end that gives you your first glimpse of the bay before you arrive.
The Route: DLM to Ölüdeniz
From the airport, the D400 heads northeast toward Fethiye. About 50 km in, at Fethiye's eastern edge, the transfer turns south on the mountain road that climbs through pine forest before descending dramatically into the Ölüdeniz valley. This last section is the most scenic of any DLM transfer route — a winding road with panoramas over the lagoon opening up as you descend. It also means the final 15 km takes about 20 minutes rather than the highway average, so account for this if you're planning to the minute.
Ölüdeniz village, the lagoon entrance, Hisarönü and Ovacık are all served on this route. Most guests stay in Ölüdeniz itself (closest to the beach and lagoon) or in Hisarönü / Ovacık (10–15 minutes above, livelier nightlife, cooler evenings).
What's Included
- Flight-tracked meet & greet: name board in arrivals, driver waits for delays.
- Door-to-door: hotel, pension or villa in Ölüdeniz, Hisarönü, Ovacık or Belcekız Beach.
- Fixed price — no meter.
- Air-conditioned vehicle sized for your group.
- Free cancellation to 24 hours before.
Ölüdeniz: What Awaits
The Blue Lagoon (Ölüdeniz Lagün) is a protected natural park — entry costs a small fee and the water inside the lagoon is glassy calm even when the open sea has waves. Ölüdeniz beach itself (Belcekız) is one of the longest pebble/sand strips on the Aegean, running for over a kilometre with the lagoon visible at the far end.
Paragliding from Baba Dağ is the single most popular activity on the entire Turquoise Coast. Tandems launch from around 1,750 m and soar over the lagoon for 25–40 minutes, landing on Belcekız beach. Tandem flights can be booked through local operators in the village — they typically run from early morning until mid-afternoon depending on thermals. If paragliding is a priority, an early-afternoon arrival gives you a better chance of flying the same day.
Saklikent Gorge (a narrow canyon 40 minutes inland) and the ghost village of Kayaköy (15 minutes by road) are the best day trips from Ölüdeniz.
Practical Arrival Tips
- The village of Ölüdeniz is very walkable — most hotels, restaurants and activities are within 10–15 minutes on foot from the beach.
- The mountain road into Ölüdeniz is narrow in places. If you're travelling with a large group (8+) in a minibus, the driver will know the route well — this is one of the most frequent runs in the whole Dalaman transfer network.
- Arrive thirsty? The beach bars on Belcekız open from around 09:00. The village market is well stocked with fresh produce and cold drinks open from early morning.
- Currency: Turkish lira is accepted everywhere in Ölüdeniz. Cards are widely used at restaurants and hotels but bring some cash for beach sun-lounger hire (typically paid in lira).
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ölüdeniz the same as Fethiye — can I use the same transfer?
Ölüdeniz is 15 km south of Fethiye town centre on a mountain road — they're in the same general area but a separate destination. DLM to Ölüdeniz is roughly 10–15 minutes longer than DLM to Fethiye centre. When booking, specify Ölüdeniz (or your hotel name) and the correct route will be booked automatically.
How much does the Dalaman Airport to Ölüdeniz transfer cost?
Fixed price typically in the $50–70 range for a standard car (1–4 passengers). Exact pricing for your group is shown at checkout.
Can I book a paragliding tandem flight when I land?
Your transfer driver can often advise on local operators — this is one of the questions Agrom Travel drivers answer most often. However, bookings are handled by the local paragliding schools, not by us. Tandem flights are bookable in person at the village or in advance online.
What time does the Blue Lagoon open?
The lagoon entrance (a short walk or dolmuş from the village) typically opens around 08:00 and closes at sunset. The entry fee is collected at the gate and covers use of the pebble beach and swimming area inside the lagoon.
