Fethiye City Tour: The Best Things to See in One Day
· 5 min read
Author: Agrom Travel
If you only have one day in Fethiye, here's how to spend it: Amyntas tomb, Kayaköy ghost village, fish market and old town — covered for €25.
Fethiye is one of those towns most visitors treat as a base for day trips and never actually visit. That's a mistake. The town itself has a 2,400-year-old Lycian tomb you can climb up to, an abandoned Greek village that inspired Louis de Bernières's Birds Without Wings, and one of the best fish markets on the south coast.
What the city tour covers
This is a half-day-plus tour (around 6 hours) that hits the four things in town nobody should miss, with the kind of context a guide gives you that Wikipedia doesn't.
- Tomb of Amyntas — a 4th-century-BC Lycian rock tomb cut into the cliff above town, with the best sunset view in Fethiye
- Kayaköy — abandoned Greek village of 500+ stone houses left empty after the 1923 population exchange, still untouched a century later
- Fethiye fish market — pick your fish at the central counter, choose a restaurant around the edge to cook it for you
- Paspatur old town — narrow back streets, spice shops, the Roman amphitheatre
Practical info
The tour runs Tuesdays. Pickup is from your hotel in Fethiye, Çalış, Hisarönü or Ölüdeniz. Hotel transfer and English/Russian/Turkish guide are included; entrance fees and the fish market lunch are paid on site.
Price
Adult €25, child €20. This is the cheapest tour we offer and it's by far the most under-rated. If you only do one tour during your stay, this is the one most guests later wish they'd done first instead of last — Kayaköy in particular changes how you see the rest of the coast.
Tips for the day
- Wear shoes you can walk in. Kayaköy is uphill on uneven stone.
- Bring cash for the fish market — credit cards work but counter prices are negotiated.
- Ask the guide about Hatice's bakery in the back streets after the tour. (We won't say more here.)
Best for
Anyone who wants to actually understand where they're staying, not just sunbathe nearby. Combine it with a beach day or with our Ölüdeniz paragliding for a full-on Fethiye week. To book the city tour with hotel pickup, head over to the Fethiye city tour page and pick your date.
